Rose Byrne was born in Sydney, Australia, on July 24, 1979. She is the youngest of four children. Around the age of 8, Byrne started taking acting classes at the Australian Theatre for Young People. She made her film debut in 1994’s Dallas Doll, which starred Sandra Bernhard. After appearing on several Australian TV shows, such as Heartbreak High, Byrne starred opposite Heath Ledger in Two Hands (1999).  The following year, Byrne won a best actress award at the Venice Film Festival for her work in The Goddess of 1967. She was soon introduced to international film audiences with a small role in George Lucas’s Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and shortly thereafter she landed a part in the big-budget epic Troy (2004) starring Brad Pitt.

In 2006, Byrne appeared in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, then moved on to leading roles in Danny Boyle’s science-fiction thriller Sunshine (2007) and the disease-driven horror tale 28 Weeks Later (2007). Byrne also made her Broadway debut in 2014, appearing in You Can’t Take It With You, and the following year she starred in the comedy Adult Beginners.
