RICKY Gervais has revealed he lost 1½ stone because he feared his life style would kill him – and said: “Why didn’t anyone tell me I was fat?” The comedy star, 50, spilled the beans on his non-diet weight loss as The People met up with him in London’s Piccadilly Circus. Ricky told : “People say I look great now. They then say I used to be pear-shaped. Why didn’t anyone tell me? I would have worked out earlier.”

He said: “I’ve never had a problem with weight. I was thin until I was about 29. Then I hit 30 and there was a decade of eating and drinking.

I just decided I’d work out and slim down because I didn’t want to die. “Now I get up, take a deep breath and go running. “Every morning I have red wine coming out of my pores, I feel a bit sick – and then I think I have to work out for an hour now to burn off all those calories.

“I go for a run on Hampstead Heath most days when I’m in London. I probably do about 35-40 minutes of cardio and then 20 minutes of weights at home. It’s made easier because I have a gym in my house. Then I can eat and drink what I want – wine and cheese – throughout the day.”

He joked: “I’m thinking of bringing out a Christmas fitness video because I didn’t have to give up alcohol or food.”Gervais has also told how he turned down the lead role in the US version of The Office.
