Austin Nichols was born April 24, 1980 in Ann Arbor, Michigan but was raised in Austin, Texas till he was 18, when he relocated to California to pursue acting. Apart from writing and acting, Nichols also used to be a competitive water skier. He represented the U. S. as part of the Junior Water Team that competed in the Pan-American Championships in 1997. Nichols came to prominence in the film The Day After Tomorrow and gained further recognition as arrogant tennis star, Jake Hammond, in the romantic comedy, Wimbledon, starring Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany.
Austin Nichols’ acting career began when he gatecrashed at a party at the Sundance Film Festival, and was suddenly signed by a manager. Since then, he has received numerous guest roles in a variety of television series. In 1999, he had a part in the show Sliders, and played Sammy in Durango. He later had a small role in an episode of Odd Man Out. In 2001, he was seen on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and on Family Law. He continued guest-starring on shows, including Watching Ellie, Wolf Lake, and the hit HBO series Six Feet Under. In 2002, he had a recurring role in Pasadena as Charlie Darwell, and later played Jerry Armstrong in the 2006 film Glory Road. At that time, he was seen on CSI: Miami, Thanks to Gravity, and Lenexa, 1 Mile. After a role in the series Deadwood, he got a part in The House of Usher. In 2007, he played the mysterious John Monad in John from Cincinnati. He was next seen on Friday Night Lights, and has signed on for roles in The Informers, Prayers for Bobby and Fencewalker. Nichols is currently portraying Spencer Monroein AMC’s The Walking Dead.
