When Jason Alexander became the new spokesman for Jenny Craig, his wife, Daena, asked, “If this doesn’t work, aren’t you nervous about being humiliated?” Alexander’s reply: “Honey, I’ve made a career out of being humiliated!” Lucky for Daena, she’s got nothing to worry about.

Since the actor—best known for playing the rotund and neurotic George Costanza on Seinfeld—started the weight-loss program five weeks ago at 195 lbs., Alexander, 50, has dropped about 14 lbs. “My younger son [Noah, 14] has a nickname for me: SFB—short, fat, bald,” says the 5’5″ actor, whose goal is to lose 30 lbs. “I said to him, ‘You’re going to have to make it just SB pretty soon!'” Along with working out five times a week, Alexander—who currently stars in the one-man show The Donny Clay Experience in Las Vegas—drastically cut his diet down from 4,500 calories a day (“Twinkies were one of my favorites”) to a 1,500-calorie daily meal plan heavy on fruits and vegetables. Now that his waistline is 2 in. smaller, “I have to use suspenders on most of my pants,” he says. “That American Idol song ‘Pants on the Ground?’ That’s me.”
Jason Alexander didn’t set his sights on extreme weight loss—and that may be his secret to success. The pleasantly plump actor turned to Jenny Craig to lose just 30 pounds. By slashing his daily caloric intake from 4,500 to 1,500 and adding regular workouts, he was able to drop the weight in 6 months.
Jason has been a staple of television viewing far beyond his years on “Seinfeld.” He starred on the series “Everything’s Relative,” “E.R.,” and “Listen Up.” His television films include Bye Bye Birdie and The Man Who Saved Christmas. He has guested on numerous shows and specials and has also directed episodes of Seinfeld, Everybody Hates Chris and Criminal Minds, as well as an award-winning Brad Paisley music video and two feature films.
Currently, he is traveling the country in the one man show, The Donny Clay Experience, an original show he created with Peter Tilden billed as a “hilarious spoof of motivational speakers in an evening of laughter, music, and personal growth.”
