Born in Nizhny Novgorod in Russia (formerly known as Gorky, USSR) in 1982, Natalia Vodianova grew up in a poor district of the city where she helped her mother to sell fruit on the street to provide for their family. It was at this street market that Vodianova was discovered, aged 16, and consequently went on to learn English in order to conquer the European fashion scene. After moving to Paris at 17 years old, Vodianova signed with Viva Models, and since has completed advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Louis Vuitton, L’Oréal, Marc Jacobs, Pepe Jeans, Diane von Furstenberg and Chanel as well as appearing on the catwalks of Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Chloe, Marc Jacobs and many more. In 2001, Vodianova married The Honourable Justin Trevor Berkeley Portman, heir to a family that owns large parts of central London, and half-brother of the 10th Viscount Portman. The couple now have three children: Lucas Alexander, born in 2001, Neva, born in 2006, and Viktor, born in 2007. Vodianova famously attended the Golden Age Of Couture Gala at the Victoria and Albert Museum in sample-sized Givenchy couture just days after giving birth to her third child.
