Shantel VanSanten was born in Luverne, Minnesota. She is of Dutch and Norwegian descent. VanSanten was raised in Spring, Texas. Shantel attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She began her career as a model when she was just 15; she got further exposure when she joined the NBC reality series Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Model Search, where she was eliminated on the very first episode. In 2007, it was announced she had signed on in a film adaption of the novel t.A.T.u. Come Back. Filming took place throughout 2007 in Los Angeles and Moscow. Starring alongside Mischa Barton, the film premiered in Russia on January 25, 2011, and in the U.S. a year later.
VanSanten pursued an acting career in 2008, when she appeared in a few movies. In 2009, she starred in the horror flick The Final Destination; the same year, she joined the cast of the CW’s One Tree Hill as Quinn James, the free-spirited sister of Bethany Joy Galeotti’s Haley. In 2014, she joined the cast of the TV series Gang Related, as well as The Messengers.
